Starting yesterday (June 21, 2010) around 4:30 pm PST we experienced periodic disruptions to our website.  The last of these disruptions occurred at 6:38 am PST this morning. The cause of the disruptions was a combination of an unusually high volume of traffic directed at our front-end servers and a previously-undiagnosed networking issue with a server that we had brought on-line last week.

We are taking the following steps to avoid this issue from happening again:

- Isolating the service that had the high volume of incoming data from the dashboard service by moving it to servers dedicated to it, rather than sharing the same resources used by the dashboard
- Improving monitoring of LAN connectivity to alert us to networking issues before they manifest themselves as an issue in the dashboard
